An Alphabetical Guide To Vitamins

Vitamins are of main significance in how we live our lives and how we feel. They are an influential part, and without taking them you are leaving yourself open to ill health. If you overdose on vitamins, that to can cause as many problems as not taking them so a balance has to be drawn up.

Altogether there are 13 different types of vitamins that have been found in various sources from 1909 to the most up-to-date in 1941. Looking at the 13 selections of vitamins, four are fat soluble and the other 9 as water soluble. In theory this means that water soluble vitamins can't be stored in the body so they need to be consumed in your diet on a daily basis, while fat soluble can be stored in your body and won't need to be taken on a daily basis. The main types of vitamins that are always present in the human diet are A, C, D and E and they can be found in many types of food products and from various other sources.

What is Vitamin A

The very first of the vitamins to be uncovered was Vitamin A known in some circles as Retinol. Vitamin A was discovered back as early as 1909 in cod liver oil and can now be found in many food types. Many of these are meat orientated such as pork, chicken and beef however if you are a vegetarian don't worry! Vitamin A sources can also be found in the likes of sweet potatoes. Vitamin A has many helpful aids that comprise of helping your visual strengths, supporting your immune system and by and large maintaining and improving your body to a fit and healthy level. Taking too much can lead to a disease called Hypervitaminosis A which can then cause liver damage and osteoporosis.

Information on Vitamin C

Vitamin C is also a major vitamin and is equally needed as much as vitamin A in your diet. Vitamin C was first come across in sometime in 1912. Some of you will already have heard of Vitamin C as it's the most recognised and popular of the entire vitamin collection. Vitamin C can be found in a vast range of fruits such as lemons, oranges and grapefruits and mainly focuses on the inner parts of the human body, absorbing iron and usually safeguarding your inner organs, keeping them fighting fit. Taking over the stated allowance can lead to indigestion problems.

The Ups and Downs of Vitamin D

Now we come to the third of our 4 main vitamins, Vitamin D, which was discovered late in 1918. A lot of people generally match this vitamin with fish products like salmon and herring. However Vitamin D can also be found in such foods as cow's milk and cereal grains, and can even be absorbed by being in the sun. The advantages of Vitamin D can comprise of a radiant white smile as it controls the calcium and phosphate in your body which also results in healthy, strong bones. On the down side a vitamin deficiency can lead to some chronic problems which include the likes of schizophrenia, cancer and rickets. By taking too much vitamin E you will most likely suffer the same kind of affects as Vitamin A with a disease called Hypervitaminosis D with side effects such as sickness, diarrhea and fatigue.

What is Vitamin E

Finally, Vitamin E which was the most recent of our main 4 vitamins to be discovered, this was found in 1922 in a source of wheat germ oil. Foods with Vitamin E in can include nuts, peanuts and avocado. The optimal dosage of this vitamin can help protect your body by acting as an antioxidant that will help to fend off any diseases that can affect your immune system and help to fight off illnesses and other general hazards that can threaten your well being. Overdosing on this vitamin could be risky which will make you prone to a chronic disease such as lung cancer.
