By: Jamie Hanson

Your psyche is already troubled with the weakening condition of the economy; nowadays you also have to think of ways to safeguard your house from being targeted by burglars as a result of increased crime in this economic situation. When the financial system is down, there's always a rise in rate of crime. Houses in localities with many houses facing foreclosure are most vulnerable to this crime wave. therefore, how do we save our houses from this risk? The following are methods to safeguard your property; you'll be amazed to find some new tips here. Just put into practise these guidelines to turn your home into one of the most safest properties in the neighbourhood.

Mailbox: Remove your name from the mailbox. It wouldn't take much time for a thief to call 411 to acquire your number and then call your home to check if you're there. To verify if a house is empty or not is not difficult. By taking a little preventive measure, we can stop this from happening to us.

Telephone: Burglars may find out the status of occupancy of your house from the ringer of your telephone, hence it should be reduced.

Outdoor lighting: Installing motion triggered lighting is a big way to frighten off burglars because they can work only in the dark. What possibly could be better to scare them than the dazzling lightening that will give away their presence. Purchase outdoor motion lighting with inbuilt fine-tuning facility to increase or decrease the sensitivity. In any case, when a stray cat triggers off our outdoor lights, we don't want to wake up, do we?

Glass doors - its least advisable to have glass doors around your house You must realise that it is very easy to shatter the glass door and unlocking it. This is child's play to even an amateur robber. Laminate the decorative glass doors if you want to have them around your house. You can do this using 3M's 28 ply Ultra protected and security clear film.

Tools: Your ladder and tools may be very useful to you; but make sure they are store away and don't help a burglar as well.

Shrubbery: Slash your bushes low. Dense shrubs and thick trees are excellent hideouts for robbers.

Trash: awful, but right! Some robbers get a hint of what kind of valuables you may have in your house by simply sorting all the way through your garbage. You must cut into strips all your boxes and put them in a bag and chuck it into the base of your rubbish bins. When you leave expensive boxes open to public sight at the top of your garbage cans, it's like inviting burglars to enter your house

Lighting: The lights of your house should have an inbuilt timer. This is to make your house look occupied even when it's not. And the best part is that it is quite cheap.

Door locks: Best door locks must have a dead lock with a strike plate fastened by screws that are a minimum of 3 inches in length. Standard safety requirement demands nothing less than this.

Windows and tracks: pay money for metal piping from your region hardware shop to be fixed in the track of your windows. Buy a piping that is 1/4' inches less than the original length of your window. Cutting the measurement by length by a quarter of an inch will ensure a good form and save you a trip back. The fitting has to be perfect to make it hard to remove. Any unfortunate burglar who tries to enter in through the window will find it impossible to open it.
